Azadi Records is proud to present the latest single by Srinagar-based hip-hop artist Ahmer. Titled ‘I.D’, the record is an explosive exploration of the psychological trauma caused by the consistent and venomous dehumanization and oppression faced by the Kashmiri people every single day. Produced by Delhi-based musician Lacuna, ‘I.D’ is a relentless attack on the blissful ignorance of the aggressions faced by the local population, brought to life by the illustrations of Anis Wani, one of Kashmir’s most exciting young visual artists.
Lyrically, ‘I.D’ offers one of the most brutal and direct accounts addressing the humiliation felt by Kashmir’s citizens at every checkpoint. The accompanying music video, illustrated by Anis Wani and directed by Crevixa, who previously collaborated with Ahmer on his debut single ‘Elaan’, dives deep into the effects of this trauma and presents a surrealist take on the madness that takes hold because of it.
As Kashmir continues to deal with the fall-out of the Indian state’s aggression, the work of artists like Ahmer represents a moral obligation to document the history of a people on the brink of being erased.
