‘Ain’t Like Me’ – Ranj X Clifr

After a couple of releases in 2022, RANJ and CLIFR returned to a mainly melodic RnB sound with “Ain’t like me”. The intro samples dialogue from an iconic scene from Tamil cinema – considered a grand gesture of romance at the time; perhaps alluding to the idea that there is indeed a very thin line between love and madness. “Ain’t like me” almost comes across as self-talk, trying to recognize yourself as you’re chasing after love, even when it defies logic.
Clifr’s production builds a nostalgic soundscape that pays homage to the golden era of R&B, with a RANJ x Clifr twist. RANJ taps into her playful side, with clean and polished vocals backed by indulgent harmony stacks; very RnB girl-group-esque that’s making a comeback today. The song only gets stickier as it goes; a short, stream-friendly single that requires you to play it again if you want to hear the addictive chorus.
